Convocation Congratulations Class of 2021 As the University of Waterloo continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, your well-being and the safety of students, families and our campus community remains our top priority. With that in mind, we are announcing that in-person convocation ceremonies will not take place at Waterloo in June 2021.

When is the PhD convocation at Waterloo University?

A special PhD reception will also be held on Thursday, October 21 at 7 p.m. ET. A digital invitation, where you can register to attend convocation, will be sent to your Waterloo email account in mid-September.

What happens at the University of Waterloo graduation ceremony?

You will hear from the University of Waterloo chancellor, president, and provost, as well as your dean. Degrees will be virtually conferred, and a presentation of graduate names will be showcased on-screen. The registrar will announce some special awards and honours.

Will I be able to attend Convocation in-person?

You will be able to attend and participate at convocation in-person in June 2022. The University is collecting contact information from graduates who might be interested in participating in an in-person ceremony in the future (e.g., cross the stage in a rented gown). Understanding interest will be helpful in making decisions in the future.
