The grades 3-8 reading STAAR tests are currently undergoing a redesign. In spring 2022 the 2017 Reading Language Arts TEKS will be assessed and the number of cross-curricular passages on the assessments will increase. There will not be a writing prompt item on the 2022 3-8 reading STAAR tests.

What is the STAAR writing test?

The STAAR Writing Test includes 8 Revising Questions (25% of the total score). These questions take much longer than the editing questions! The student must make a complete change to a sentence. They do this by adding, removing, or moving a sentence or word to clarify the meaning of the sentence.

Do you have to pass the writing STAAR test?

In general, students must pass (Approaches Grade Level) five STAAR EOC assessments— Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History—to earn a high school diploma from a Texas public or charter school as required in TEC §39.025.

Is STAAR going to be online?

As part of the new redesign of the STAAR test, the test will be administered fully online starting next school year.

How is STAAR writing graded?

The rubrics used to evaluate STAAR compositions are based on four score points (1–4), with 1 being the lowest score and 4 being the highest. Every attempt is made to provide a score to a student essay; however, if a composition cannot be scored, it is assigned a score of 0 (nonscorable).

Will STAAR be Cancelled 2021?

The 2021 online administration of STAAR will be ETS’s last for the State of Texas. Beginning next school year, Cambium Assessment will be taking over these critical testing functions to ensure that users have a seamless online testing experience moving forward.

What does STAAR stand for?

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) program, which was implemented in spring 2012, includes annual assessments for end-of-course (EOC) assessments for English I, English II, Algebra I, biology and U.S history.

What changes will be made to the STAAR program?

The near-term STAAR redesign will include transformational changes to advance the way Texas measures the academic performance of students. These changes strengthen the STAAR program and will be implemented in the 2022–23 school year.
