Deathbrand is one of the Dragonborn Sidequests available as part of the Dragonborn DLC. The quest (level 36 minimum) revolves around a treasure hunt for the armor of the famous pirate Haknir Deathbrand, whose enchanted armor was buried in locations around Solstheim.
What’s in Bristleback cave?
Bristleback Cave is a medium-sized cave due northwest of Broken Tusk Mine containing bristlebacks and rieklings. This is a long, deep, and winding cave, home to rieklings which have a tendency to hide in riekling barrels and in snow piles. There is a riekling village in the depths of the cave.
Where are the Deathbrand gauntlets?
The Deathbrand Gauntlets are the gauntlets of a set of armor that also includes armor, boots and a helm. They can be found in a treasure chest that has been unearthed by reavers to the north-northwest of the Earth Stone, but only after you find the treasure map during the related quest.

The Bristleback Cave is a extended ice cave on the north-north-western coast of Solstheim. The cave entrance is heavily guarded by a Riekling (×7) camp, and the caves are overrun by many more Rieklings (×49), making this a significant dwelling.

Can you get Deathbrand armor before 36?
According to the wiki page you have to be level 36 or 38 to get the quest to find the armor from reading the book. To get the helmet you can be under level 36 or 38; level 20~ here got the helmet. It doesn’t start the quest, it may be a bug but you can still receive the map and helmet only.
